David founded Ellis Capital Management in March 1997 on the premise of helping people with their financial needs at an economical price. He offered trust and estate administrative services. In 2009, Ellis Capital Management was registered with the SEC as an investment advisor.

Ellis Capital Management provides investment advisory services to individuals and trusts. David Ellis is an independent trustee and provides probate administration services. David has been in the financial services business since 1974. Prior to Ellis Capital Management, he worked at two separate independent banks where he started trust departments. Before leaving the last trust department, the assets had exceeded $100 million. David has a MBA in Finance from Western Michigan University, and he has received his designations as a Certified Trust and Financial Advisor from the ABA National Graduate School at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

David is a member of the West Michigan and Lakeshore Estate Planning Councils, Mercy Health Partners Major Gifts and No More Sideline board of directors. David has also been a member of Grand Rapids Lions, American Red Cross and Friends of Hackley Public Library. David was a founding member of the Curious Kids Museum in St. Joseph, Michigan, the St. Rose Foundation and the Hastings Educational Enrichment Foundation.
